It just makes sense to lock up your gear.  Kayaks are a sizable financial investment for most people.  When traveling with your boat on your car no one wants the trip cancelled if a boat goes missing.  What is the best way to lock up your kayak?    There are several good options depending on your boat shape and features.

Cable locks are a good choice.  They provide a good amount of deterrence while still be convenient enough to use.   The most common times a kayak needs to be locked is when it is on your roof rack or if stored outside.   Lasso makes a great line of kayak security cables that are specially designed to work with most any boat.  The Lasso Security Cable features two loops which are connected by a cable with a lock in the center.   The loops are fit over each end of the kayak then the cable between can be run through a car rack, post, tree, or any other object and connected at the lock.  Lasso comes in two sizes:  one for single touring kayaks and the other for Tandems, wider sit-on-tops, and fishing kayaks.  Adjustment for length can be made by wrapping the cable more than once around the object when attaching the lock.

Lasso makes this style of cable lock in three cable/ lock styles:  the Original vinyl coated aircraft steel to 3/8” cable with a keyed lock, the Kong which has a heavier (vinyl coated to ½”) cable and both a keyed and combo lock and the heaviest, Titan with a 10mm cable (vinyl coated to more than 1/2) (this one is best suited to use on a dock or destination locations when not having to travel with the cable).

The vinyl coated galvanized aircraft steel cable on all Lasso which is good in the weather and heavier than most other cable locks on the market.  While cable locks can be cut with the right cutters it does take time which slows down someone trying to take the kayak.    Lassos are quite visible on kayaks which also makes them obvious to a potential thief and hopefully will give them pause before trying to take your boat.

Lasso Lock-All cable is a unique cable lock with a small end and adjustable loop size and is shorter than the kayak cables.  The Lock-All will work for anything with a hole ¾” and secures with a barrel combo lock.  Some kayaks now feature “security loops or bars” molded directly into the kayak (most often found behind the cockpit.  Security bars will allow a cable to pass through the hole for a positive attachment point.    The Lasso Lock-All is the perfect cable lock for boats with this attachment point. The Lock-All can also be used to pass the cable between the side of the seat inside the cockpit.  The Lock-All cable is not limited to your kayak but can be used for all kinds of valuable gear like ladders, generators, small machines and more

When not paddling your kayak the best security is it to keep it stored inside a locked area but when that is not a possibility check out the Lasso Security Cable systems.
